Week 4: Rosedale Blazers vs. Higher Ground





Rosedale Blazers vs. Higher Ground great game already. Higher Ground came out strong ended the first quarter with a 9-point lead.  Towards the end of the second quarter, the Rosedale Blazers went on a run and picked up defense. After a 15-2 run, Rosedale would take the lead, after trailing for most of the game. That fast Rosedale would quiet Higher Ground to go up 42-35 to end the first half. Scoring leaders: Brian Geffen for Higher Ground with 13 points, Kyle would end the first half with 16 for Rosedale. 






Higher Ground redeemed themselves in the third quarter to close it out down by only 1 point, 50-51. The Rosedale Blazers missed opportunities in the paint that would have created even more space between them and Higher Ground. During the fourth quarter, Higher Ground did their best to try to get back in it but the remaining minutes would belong to Rosedale. Rosedale would get another win 78-69. Scoring leaders: Kyle for Rosedale with 22 followed by Cody with 16 to end the game.

Week 4: BK Stompers vs Silva All-Stars


 
Another good game this afternoon. Team Silva with a great early start offensively, only miss 6 of their shots in the first quarter. Both teams started to lack energy to start the second quarter but towards the end both teams picked it up. For the BK Stompers we have a special guest, Anthony Marrow of the Dallas Mavericks, he along with the fav, Kinu both ended the first half with 11 a piece. Silva All-Stars hot shooting would help them maintain the lead 51-44. Ev Richardson lead his team with 16 points. 




 
 
The struggle continued for the BK Stompers, too many costly turnovers and Team Silva took advantage. In the third quarter it looked like BK would get back in it but it wasnt enough. For the final minutes it was all Team Silva. They would get the win against Kinu and the Brooklyn Stompers 94-71. EV Richardson for team Silva would finish with 33 big points and Kinu ended with 20. Game!



Week 4: Team OTR vs. R2K


 

Week 4 is underway with Team OTR against R2K. Both teams turned the ball off early in the game but Team OTR ended the first quarter with the lead 24-19. After R2K started cold by shooting too many 3-pointers, they found some rhythm to get back in the game to end the first half strong with lead, 41-35. Scoring leaders; Jeremy Hazell with 14 points for Team OTR and 13 points for Dwight Hardy to lead R2K. 

 

Following halftime, Team OTR continued to struggle offensively and turnovers are a factor as well. At the end of the third R2K looking for another win, 69-57. Once in the fourth, Team OTR went one a run and by the mid way point they were only down 8 points after trailing by as much as 14. However, R2K shot 50 percent to finish with another win over Team OTR 92-80.  Dwight Hardy lead his team with 28 big points including a few 3-pointers and Rich Ross for Team OTR had 30 points.

Week 3: Team 914 vs. DDN SeanBell


 

 
 
Both teams were off to a slow start offensively, resulting in a low scoring game. We did have 5ties, and by the end of the second quarter, Team 914 would end up with the lead 40-34. G.Cole is leading team 914 with 12 points while Vern for DDN Seanbell has 9. 


 
The game stayed very close for the rest of the time remaining .We tied not 1 time but 10 times. Both teams missed key shots to create even more space over the other. The final tie happened with less than a minute in the game, Team 914 would miss a chance to tie it again to head into OT. Final Score: 73-70, DDN SeanBell. Vern lead DDN Sean Bell with 26. G Cole and Problem finished with 14 each. Game!!

Week 3: Team Bang vs R2K


Another great game between these two teams. R2K dominated the offense boards for the first half giving them the early lead. Team Bang got within 2 points, with 10 minutes left in the 2nd (32-34). R2K responded with a quick 6 points of their own midway thru the second and would hold on to the lead 49-57. Deshawn for R2K had the hot hand with 18 points. OJ for Team Bang ended the half with 11. 

After the first 2 quarters, looked as if Team Bang was going to creep into R2Ks lead in the third; 61-65.  Team Bang's issue was the 3-ball, they settled for too many 3-pointers and were unable to connect. In the fourth quarter, R2K took over the game. Team Bang continued to struggle offensively and R2K took advantage. In the end R2K over Team Bang 120-85.  Deshawn for R2K finished with a high 33 points. OJ ended with 17 for Team Bang.

Week 3: Rosedale Blazers vs. Silva All-Stars



Rosedale Blazers in search of their first win of the summer against the Silva All-Stars. During the first half, the Silva came out running and dominating the boards. The Silva All-Stars let a 10-point lead disappear when Rosedale went on a bit of a run to get back in the game, ended the first half down 46-49. EV for Silva, lead his team with 17 points and Los for Rosedale with 11 points at the end of two.




Big change of events in the second half of the game. Silva All-Stars went cold and Rosedale came out pushing to get their first lead to start the third quarter, 51-49. But neither lead was safe the the third quarter ended with another tie at 72.  Once in the fourth Rosedale would put some space between themselves and the Silva All-Stars up 10 midway. Towards the end of the final 12 minutes, Silva tried to get back in it but it wouldnt be enough. The Rosedale Blazers would hold on for their first win of the season, 111-103. Scoring leaders: JoJo got hot after the half for Rosedale to finish with 28, and EV for Silva ended with 36. Game!!

Week3: Higher Ground vs. DDN/SeanBell




DDN/SeanBell playing an all around good game for the first two quarters. Led by as much as 12. Higher Ground would get back in the game to reduce the deficit to single digits. Ty Taylor from the Brooklyn Nets led DDN/SeanBell with 17 points and Vinny and Cody for Higher Ground both finished the first half with 20 a piece. After two, DDN/SeanBell over Higher Ground 53-43. 





Higher Ground continued to cut into the lead to start the third and got within 3; 55-52. Higher Ground had the momentum after a 3-pointer by Brian Geffan to take a one point lead. But DDN/SeanBell responded to take a double digit lead. DDN/SeanBell led by Ty Taylor's 27 points get the victory 103-93. Vinny for Higher Ground ended with 22 points. Another great game!

Week 3: Team OTR vs. Skull Gang




Great games underway on this beautiful Saturday at orchard beach. After the first two quarters neither team has led by more than 5. Following multiple ties, Team OTR has a slight advantage over Skull Gang Records, 48-47. Auturo for OTR scored 15 to lead his team, and Jordan also had 15 for Skull Gang Records. 



The third and fourth quarter was a battle from beginning to end. Skull Gang ended strong over team OTR 72-69. But team OTR wouldn't go away, after 5 ties, Auturo would make a clutch lay-up for the lead with less than a minute left in the game. When Skull Gang stepped out on a key possession it seemed as if they gave the game away but with a huge 3-pointer at the buzzer they tie the game at 97 to send us into overtime. 

Well the first overtime wasn't enough for these two teams, tied again at 102 a piece. We need additional minutes to determine the winner of this game.
In the final minutes of the second overtime both teams wasted key possessions. Coach Pop for team OTR recieved a technical foul while Skull Gang was already at the line to shoot freethrows. After three freethrows, Skull Gang would take a 1-point lead. Believe it or not we would tie AGAIN at 109 for the third overtime.
After triple OT, Skull Gang Records would pull ahead team OTR to get the win 116-115. Scoring leaders: Jordan for Skull Gang finished with 29 and Auturo for team OTR had a big 38. Great game.

Hoops in the Sun: Fathers Day Final Game

Team Bang vs. Silva All-Stars

Final game underway between Team Bang and the Silva All-Stars, another close one 4 minutes left in the first. Team Bang with the lead 22-19. After the first 12 minutes, 27-23 Team Bang. A little over 6 minutes left in the first half, Silva All-Stars picking up defense as they are down 29-33. Team Bang on the other hand, is trying to close out the half strong, up 7 with less than 4 minutes to go. The Silva All-Stars are slowly creeping in, down 4 1:09 to go. 42-39 at the end of two. 




 

Two more quarters to go, Silva All-Stars within 2. Game getting a little chippy we are tied at 46 apiece. Five minutes left in the third quarter Silva trying to take over with a 4 point lead over Team Bang. Silva All-Stars ending the third quarter strong, up 65-56. Team Bang needs to go on a run they are falling apart with 9 minutes left, 56-74. Less than 8 minutes left in regulation, Team Bang down trying to reduce the deficit 63-75. Four minutes to go on the verge of a blowout, Team Bang barely holding on down, 68-86. Well the Silva All-Stars are approaching the victory 1:20 left they are up 94-72. And they get the win over Team Bang 94-74. D Bell and Ervin for the Silva All-Stars finish with 19 respectively. Jah for Team Bang ends with 16. Game!!!

BK Stompers vs. Team 914

Game 2 starting after a slight delay. Team 914 with the early lead 8-3. BK ties the game after the slow start at 12 30 seconds left. We end the first with a tie, 14 a piece. Second quarter, game staying close BK Stompers only down 4. BK Stompers recover to take the lead, up 3 after a nice 3-pointer off the miss of Team 914.  Both teams picking up defense 1:50 to go in the half, BK Stompers with the slight edge over Team 914, 27-26. After 2 quarters Team 914 with the lead 30-29. 


Off to the third quarter, we are tied yet again, neither team is pulling away with a large lead. 31 apiece 10 minutes left. Approaching the 5 minute mark, BK Stompers trailing 41-35. After a 3-point-play, BK Stompers back within 3. At the end of the third, 45-46 Team 914. Final 12 minutes of the game, this will go down to the wire. Team 914 locking up defense forcing turnovers. Team 914 trying to run away with this game 5:20 left in the game 55-47. Kino helping his team rally after a nice tip in, 3 minutes left to go 51-57. BK Stompers still battling, 54-61 only 1:50 left in the game. We have a 1 point game, 60-61 BK worked their way back into it, 37.3 left. After missing a key shot, we have BK at the line down 1, and they tie the game at 62, .28 seconds left. Once again BK Stompers defense forces a much needed turnover 11 seconds left in the game. Missed opportunity on both teams, and we head to overtime. 
 
Overtime: Every possession is key during these last few minutes. BK Stompers going on a run taking over the game with the lead 68-63, less than 2 minutes to go. Jayvaughn been clutch for the last final minutes of the game, BK still up by 4, 20 seconds to go. BK Stompers with the win 71-66. Jayvaughn scored 24 for Bk Stompers ,Super Dave led Team 914 with 16 points.

R2K vs. Rosedale Blazers 



 
Great game underway for Fathers Day between R2K vs Rosedale Blazers. Rosedale struggling with turnovers in the first R2K with the early lead 7-0. We have NBA star Kemba Walker playing for R2K, one of Hoops in the Sun favorites.  Five minutes in to go Rosedale trying to get back in the game down 10, 18-8. Kemba Walker with the sweet pass to JoJo to put his team up 22-8, 3 minutes left in the quarter.  Rosedale ends the first quarter with a little run, however R2K maintains the lead 31-17 to end the first. Rosedale Blazers start the second quarter strong with back-to-back 3-pointers, 31-23 11 minutes to go. R2K's defense keeping them up double digits, Rosedale with another turnover. Jojo for Rosedale trying to get his team back in the game with the shot, draws the foul AND1. Two minutes left in the first half, R2K still holding on to the lead 49-38. We end the first half with R2K over Rosedale 55-38. 


Second half , Rosedale continues to struggle, thanks to R2K defense holding on to the lead 67-49. Mike Glover with the dunk, R2K 73-49 over Rosedale. This game is all R2K, Kemba Walker getting hot in transition with the lay-up 79-53, a little over one minute left in the third quarter. We end the third 85-57 R2K. Rosedale needs to go on a run to trim the deficit. Final 12 minutes to go, Rosedale opens with a dunk, going on a run but R2K responds everytime 90-67 9 minutes left. This game is all R2K, with another steal. Rosedale giving this game away, 6:50 left score now up 102-69. We call it 114-82 R2K. Kemba Walker led R2K with 25 points, Los also had 25 for Rosedale. Game!

Hoops in the Sun: Fathers Day Weekend

DDN/Sean Bell vs. Team OTR 

 First quarter, DDN/SeanBell with the early lead 10-5. Four minutes left in the game both teams are battling 21-18 DDN/SeanBell over Team OTR. After the first 12 minutes, DDN/SeanBell holding on 31-24.  Team OTR within 3 midway through the second, 36-33.  Team OTR with the lead 2 minutes left in the half, 40-39. This game is staying close, 3-pointer by DDN/SeanBell puts them back up 2, a little over 1 minute left. To end the first half Cabby leads Team OTR with 11 and TwoTwo for DDN/SeanBell has 14.


Second Half DDN contiuing with the lead, 48-45. Testy game, both teams getting fired-up, seems to be the trend this afternoon. Third quarter staying close, we are tied yet again, 53 a piece. 62-58 to after 3, this game is going to go down to the wire, 12 minutes left. DDN/SeanBell pulling away, 71-58, 9 minutes left in the game. Team OTR needs to go on a run with 4 minutes left, they are down 10, 79-69.Two minutes to go, Team OTR is down 8, key possessions left for both teams. DDN/SeanBell gets the victory, 84-78.  Marvin for DDN/SeanBell finished with 25 and Artie for Team OTR ends with 20 points.

G2 Ent/ Team Bang vs Rosedale Blazers: 



Great match-up on this beautiful day between these two teams. First quarter has begun. Good defense by both teams to start the game, tied at 14. Midway through the first, big steal followed by a 3-pointer by G2 Ent/Team Bang, with the lead 21-18. However, the Rosedale Blazers are creeping, down 2 with a little over 2 minutes left. Just like that after another tie, the Rosedale Blazers take a 2 point lead 1:50 to go. The first quarter ends with the Rosedale Blazers over G2 Ent/Team Bang 36-27. Second quarter, Rosedale holding on to the lead 38-30. Big block by Stacy Daniels for Team Bang to cut into the deficit. Five minutes left in the half, 43-34 Rosedale. Well this quarter is all Rosedale, good offense and defense gives them a big lead, 51-37, 55 seconds left. First half ends, JoJo for Rosedale with 18 points to put his team up 55-40. Haron Hargrave finishes with 16 points for G2 Ent/Team Bang.


 Second half underway. Rosedale still a problem for G2 Ent/Team Bang but with  alot of time left, they have the opportunity to cut the deficit to single digits. 67-49 4 minutes left. Team Bang going on a run and picked up their defense 67-52 three in a half minutes left in the third quarter. Team Bang trying to stop Rosedale's offense with 1:24 on the clock. Game got a bit too physical resulting in not one but two ejections for each team. After the third, Rosedale still with the lead 75-60. Team Bang gonna have to open up the fourth strong to get back in the game. Early in the fourth Team Bang cuts into the lead down 9 with 9 minutes to go in the game. Deep three by Haron Hargrave to pull his team within 2, 5 and some change left in the game. Big rebounds by Team Bang giving them second chance opportunities. Two minutes to go and we have a tie 90 apiece. Team Bang with huge the comeback after trailing for most of the game, 92-90. After a turn over we are tied again, 1 minute left in the game. 38 seconds, tied at 93. Overtime we go. Stay tuned 

Overtime, Rosedale back after letting G2 Ent/Team Bang get back in the game. 100-97. 24 seconds left in OT, 1 point game 100-99 Rosedale. 6 seconds left Team Bang had the chance to take the lead but missed a key lay-up. BIG THREE !!! By G2 Ent/Team Bang to take a one point lead, .4 seconds left. G2 Ent/Team Bang with the win after being down 15, 102-101. Haron Hargrave finishes with 41 points for G2 Ent/Team Bang and JoJo ended with 34 before fouling out for the Rosdale Blazers. Game!!!

Hoops in the Sun: R2K vs. BK Stompers


 

First quarter underway. Battle from the start and after multiple ties BK Stompers with the lead 28-23. Both teams getting out fast in transition, neither team has gotten the edge over each other. After a few highlight dunks and a deep 3-pointer by the Bk Stompers they hold on with the lead 48-44. Kinu with 17 for the Bk stompers and Mike Glover for R2K has 19. High scoring game... To end the third, BK Stompers has a slight edge over R2K, 75-71. Point for point in the fourth, The game got a little chippy towards the end with a tie at 91 a piece with 50 seconds left. Dwight Hardy for R2K hits a clutch 3-pointer to put his team up 3 with 24 seconds left in regulation. With a chance to extend the lead, Mike Glover at the line misses both free throws, however R2K will have a chance at the line again. After a missed 3 by Frazier for BK Stompers, R2K with the victory 100-96. Scoring leaders, Mike Glover 23 and Kinu 33 for BK. Great game. 

Hoops in the Sun: Skull Gang vs. Higher Ground


Two new teams to make their hoops in the sun debut, Skull Gang vs. Higher Ground .
First quarter, Higher Ground took advantage of Skull Gangs turnovers. Higher Ground over Skull Gang 27-13. Once in the second quarter, Skull Gang got within 5 late. Skull Gangs Defense got them back in the game after trailing early. And just like that Skull Gang cuts into the lead. 35-34 at the half. Mike Marin from Higher ground with 9 points, Super Mack for Skull Gang also with 9 to lead his team. Skull Gang had the momentum to end the first half, but Mike Marin continued his sharp shooting ( 16 points)with a 3-pointer at the end of the third. Higher Ground with the lead 58- 50. This game went down to the wire during the final 12 minutes. Skull Gang would finally take the lead midway through the fourth 74-71. Higher Ground started off hot so early in the game but went silent in the fourth. Final score 80-74. Scoring leader, Dobie with 19 for Skull Gang. 
 

Hoops in the Sun: 16U, Dream Nation vs. MTB Ball

Morning basketball, youth squad up first. Dream Nation with the lead after the first quarter 15-10.
At the end of 2 quarters, Dream Nation holds on with the lead, 24-19.
Third underway, Dream Nation still holding on to the lead 40-26. Team MtB has to come out strong in the fourth to get back in the game. Dream Nation to much for MTB, final score 56-37. Jaquan of Dream Nation led his team with 18 points. Great game !

Hoops in the Sun : Opening Day Mens League





Team OTR vs. Team 914
First quarter, Team 914 with the lead 21- 19 at the end of the quarter. The game staying close tied at 25 early in the second quarter. Both teams battling in the first half,  Team 914 still with the lead 43-42 at the break.




Once in the third we would tie some more. Midway through the third quarter, Team OTR would take the lead. Team 914 tried to make a run, however Team OTR finished the quarter strong 75-62. Team OTR continued to lead for the final minutes, Team 914 would cut into the deficit but OTR would hold on final score, 99-91.

Hoops in the Sun: Opening Day, Youth League




Youth League: BK Patriots vs. Mt. Vernon
First quarter, Mt. Vernon off to a strong start, 16-7. at the end of the quarter  Mt. Vernon maintained their lead 18-7.
Second quarter, BK Patriots trying to get back in the game after trailing early in the first. Mt. Vernon had a response for BK's attempt to rally. After 2 Mt.Vernon continues with the lead,  25-16.
Third quarter,  Mt Vernon still going strong dominating the last 3 quarters leading 40-20 at the end of the third.
Fourth, BK Patriots battled at the end of the game however could not pull any closer. Mt Vernon wins the game 51-31.
