Hall of Famer to Fashion Designer: Hakeem Olajuwon, DR34M

Hakeem “The Dream” Olajuwon is one of the greatest centers in the history of the NBA. Former player for the Houston Rockets and Hall of Famer has accomplished a great deal during his 18 years in the league. From becoming the first player to win, MVP, Defensive player of the Year, and Finals MVP all in the same season, to leading his team to win back to back NBA titles, has earned him a place among NBA greats. The legendary Hall of Famer launched another venture, Fashion Designer.

Hakeem Olajuwon launched his clothing line DR34M in 2010. He has always had a passion for fashion and is now expressing his creativity as primary designer of his line. The collection carries everything from trendy sportswear to formal wear for both men and women. He even has an assortment of premium leather goods including, totes, wallets and stylish carry on bags. His clothing line was primarily only available online and at the Toyota Center Rockets shop. However as of last year, he opened his flagship store located in the historic Jim West Mansion in Houston. Visits to the shop are available by appointment only.

Lakers vs Clippers: The Clippers Get First Division Title in Franchise History, 109-95

The Clippers have beaten the Lakers by an average of 13 points during their last 3 match-ups and had an opportunity to sweep the season series against their neighbors in today’s game. Although the Lakers got off to a good start, Chris Paul and the Clippers made history, as they swept the season series,109-95, giving them their first Pacific Division title in franchise history. The Clippers had a great all around game and maintained the lead throughout. They shot 50% from the field and out-rebound the Lakers, with 50 boards to their 36. Chris Paul and Blake Griffin led the team with 24 points a piece. Chris Paul also had 12 assist and Blake Griffin added 12 rebounds giving them both, double-doubles. DeAndre Jordan didn't shoot well, but did help on the defensive end with 13 rebounds. Jamal Crawford came off the bench with 20 points, and Caron Butler finished with 14 points. We got some big plays by the Clippers late in the fourth, including a dunk by Blake Griffin and a huge 3-pointer with under 2 minutes left in the game.The Lakers came within single digits in the fourth but never regained the lead. Dwight Howard scored 25 points and shot well from the line, hitting 9 out of 13 free-throws. Kobe Bryant also had 25 points and added 10 assist and 7 rebounds. Paul Gasol had a decent game, with 12 points and 13 boards.The Lakers played without Steve Nash, who is still out due to an injury he sustained on March 25th.

With this win, the Clippers clinch the 4^th spot in the playoffs but will still have to battle for home court advantage and must finish the season with a better record the Memphis Grizzlies. They have 5 games left including a game on Saturday against Memphis. Big accomplishment for the Clippers, but I'm sure they have their eyes on the bigger prize.

The Los Angeles Lakers fight for a spot for the playoffs isn't over. They were tied with Utah, but the Jazz got the win tonight against the Golden State Warriors. This victory moves Utah a half-game ahead of Kobe Bryant and the Lakers.With 5 games left, the Lakers can’t really afford another loss. Luckily, 4 of their 5 games are at home. On Tuesday they play against the Hornets and continue on their race for the playoffs.

Before Russell Westbrook started making headlines with his eccentric style, their was Walt "Clyde" Frazier. Walt "Clyde" Frazier is considered to be the NBA's original fashion icon, and his style has been unique since his days as a New York Knick. His flashy suits, accompanied by his wide brimmed fedoras, deemed him worthy of the nickname "Clyde". Even as commentator for Madison Square Garden , his style continues to resonate. GQ Magazine sat down with the Knicks legend to discuss NBA fashion and how he got his start. During the interview, he talks about his fashion sense and how it impacts his persona. He goes into detail about his famous nickname and the difference between NBA fashion then and now.

The Knicks Defeat the Celtics for the Second Time in a Week, 108-89

On Tuesday, March 26th, Carmelo Anthony and the Knicks traveled to Boston to face their rivals, the Celtics. In that game, the Knicks scored 50 points in the paint, as they beat the Celtics, 100-85. Entering yesterday’s match up, New York had the opportunity to win the season series against Boston for the first time since the 2003-04 season and extend their winning streak to 8. And they did just that, took apart their division rivals, as they beat the Celtics 108-89.

Last night, the Knicks lived by the 3, scoring 14 of their 27 attempts, with 11 3’s in the first half. They also had six players in double figures.Carmelo Anthony led the Knicks with, 24 points and 10 rebounds and Raymond Felton scored 18 points. Chris Copeland had a big game off the bench with 22 points. J.R Smith, who has averaged about 26 points during the streak, only scored 15 points, but managed to grab 12 boards. For Boston, Jeff Green finished with 27 points and Paul Pierce had 24 points and 15 rebounds. The Celtics were in need of the dominating Kevin Garnett who is still out with an ankle injury.

Boston has won the last 5 Atlantic division titles. Although they have lost key players this season, like their floor general Rajon Rondo and surging rookie, Jared Sullinger they have still managed to maintain a spot in the playoffs but are pretty much out of the race for another division title. The Celtics have 8 games left in the regular season. Today they lost against the Timberwovles in Minnesota without Paul Pierce who was out for personal reasons. Their next game is at home against Detroit.

New York has not won a division title since the 1993-94 season and are currently on the verge of securing the division title. Carmelo Anthony and the Knicks have a big game coming up and a chance to continue their streak, as they head to Miami to take on the Heat. Lebron James, Dwayne Wade and Mario Chlmers did not play last night against the Spurs. Maybe, Miami rested their key players in preparation for this match up against New York, stay tuned.

GQ Magazine : Inside NBA Style Wars

Before players throw on their jerseys and sneakers, you can catch them arriving to the arena in the latest looks from top fashion houses. As I discussed in previous articles, the emergence of fashion has continued to make a splash in the NBA world. Not only are top NBA players competing for dominance on the court, but now the most dominating fashion sense. That short walk from the bus to the locker room, has turned into a runway, as we watch top players like Kobe Bryant and Kevin Durant arrive wearing Givenchy, custom Valentino and Christian Louboutins. This battle off the court has continued to catch the eyes of top fashion magazines, as GQ recently did an article called “Inside NBA Style Wars”. In the article, it talks about the influence of high fashion in the NBA and how players define their personal style. The article of course, discusses fashion leader Russell Westbrook and how he is referred to as the “Kate Moss of the NBA”. It also touches on the struggle some players have, like 6 foot 9 all star Kevin Durant to find clothes for his unique size.

The Bulls Extinguish the Heat, and Put an End to the Streak, 101-97

Lebron James and the Miami Heat had their eyes set on win number 28 as they traveled to the “Windy City” last night, to take on the Bulls. Although Chicago was without key players, Joakim Noah, Richard Hamilton and Marco Belinelli, the Bulls managed to beat the Heat, 101-97, ending their 27-game winning streak. The game was competitive and intense, even a bit physical. Lebron put on a playoff worthy performance as he scored 32 points, blocked 4 shots and grabbed 7 rebounds, but it wasn't enough. He even collected a flagrant foul after getting a bit frustrated towards the end of the game. For the rest of Miami’s Big Three, Dwayne Wade had 18 points and 7 rebounds and Chris Bosh with 21 points. Throughout the streak the Heat has been able to erase deficits, so when they were down 46-55 at the half, they were expected to go on a run as they have done in previous games. That wasn't the case last night.  Defending the ball was a big part of the game, and although Chicago’s line up didn't seem too intimidating, they managed to out-rebound the Heat 43-31. In addition to their great defense, every player that entered the game for the Bulls played with intensity, as the outscored the Heat 22-8 in second chance points. Luol Deng scored 28 points; Carlos Boozer had a double- double, 21 points and 17 boards. Jimmy Butler made a splash as he finished with 17 points and 5 assist, including a dunk on Chris Bosh. Nate Robinson was very productive off the bench, scoring 14 points including a clutch 3-pointer with a minute to go. This was a big victory for the short-handed Chicago Bulls. 

The Bulls not only snapped Miami's 27-game winning streak, they have also won 3 games in a row.With this win I'm sure the Bulls have found some confidence as they prepare themselves for the playoffs. After a few days off, Chicago will be in Dallas to face Dirk Nowitzki and the Mavericks. 

As for the Miami Heat, what they have done the last 27 games was phenomenal. Along with making history, with the second longest streak in the NBA, they are also the leagues best team on the road. They have nine games left before the playoffs, and they play against the Hornets in New Orleans tomorrow. Their final game of the season will be at home against...the Bulls. Will it be pay back or will Chicago cool them off again? Stay tuned.

Nuggets vs Hornets: New Orleans ends Denver's 15-game Winning Streak

  The Nuggets were on the verge of extending their 15-game winning streak as they flew to New Orleans to go against the short-handed Hornets. New Orleans without their starting point guard Greivis Vasquez and Eric Gordon, both out with injuries, were expected to fall to the streaking Nuggets. Well the Hornets got a surprising victory last night, snapping Denver's 15-game winning streak, 110-86. New Orleans had complete control of the match up. While shooting over 48 percent for most of the game, they also played great defensively, to slow down the Nuggets. The Hornets shot well from 3-point range, and had seven players in double figures, led by Ryan Anderson who came of the bench scoring 23 points. Roger Mason Jr had 14 and Brian Roberts with 13 points and a career high, 18 assist. While in the third quarter they extended their lead by 23 points and even when the Nuggets starting to go on a run, the Hornets maintained their defense and closed out the quarter with an 86-68 lead. Robin Lopez and Lou Amundson made it difficult for the Nuggets to get into the lane, as they cut off penetration and challenged all shots. With all this defensive pressure, Denver was held to only shooting 37 percent. Danilo Gallinari led the Nuggets with 24 points, followed by Kenneth Faried with 13 and Wilson Chandler who returned from a shoulder injury after missing 2 games scored 11. Denver played without Ty Lawson for the third consecutive game, still out due to a heel injury. He was definitely the missing key last night.

New Orleans, not only surprised everyone with this victory, but also achieved their best opening half of the season with their 21 point lead. The Hornets are at home tomorrow against Chris Paul and the Clippers.

Though the 15-game streak has come to an end, it was still very impressive. Denver put together a double digit winning streak that surprised a lot of people. Even though 9 of their wins were at home, they got 6 wins on the road including a big win against the Thunder. The Nuggets still have a 1 game lead over the Grizzlies and are hoping to maintain it to get home court advantage in the playoffs. Denver heads to San Antonio tomorrow, to take on the best in the west, the Spurs.
